Providing your Meter IDs should have been a mandatory requirement when signing up for Grid Rewards, and this is now strictly enforced for all new registrations. However, this wasn’t always the case and there are some existing customers have not yet supplied these details. To ensure uninterrupted participation in Grid Rewards and to help us provide the best possible service, we kindly ask that you add any missing Meter IDs as soon as possible.
When a home has solar panels or a battery, that home becomes a small part of the electricity system as they are now producing or storing power as well as using it.
To keep everything organized, every connection to the electricity grid is given a unique ID. You can think of it like an address for energy. It helps utilities and energy platforms know where electricity is being used or produced and ensures everything is measured and handled correctly.
There are typically two important identifiers linked to a home system:
- One that identifies the home or customer
- One that identifies the electricity production (such as solar panels)
These IDs are not something people create themselves — they are assigned automatically when the home is connected to the grid or when a solar system is registered.
For Emaldo, having these IDs is essential. They allow us to:
- Connect to the correct home in the energy system
- Access accurate production and consumption data
- Enable participation in energy markets and provide ancillary services
That’s why we require all customers to provide:
- their 'Meter ID Consumption' (for their home)
- and their 'Meter ID Production (for their solar system, if applicable)
Your 'Meter ID Consumption' is associated with electricity imported from the grid and is unique to your home. This ID should be shown on your energy retailer invoices
Your 'Meter ID Production' is associated with electricity exported back to the grid from any onsite generation, such as Solar PV. This ID should have been provided to you at the point of installing the generation. If you do not have this, you need to contact you local distribution company (DSO).
If you are is unable to provide these IDs, we will not be able to connect your system to our platform or use it for providing ancillary services. This means we are limited on the services we can access and the Grid Rewards payouts we can offer. In some markets this will eventually lead to automatic termination of the contract with Emaldo, as we cannot deliver the agreed service without this information.
Why do I see Meter ID being called Installation ID and Facility ID?
You may see the terms Meter ID, Installation ID, or Facility ID used in different places—please be aware that these all refer to the same identifier assigned to your electricity connection described above. Different markets or regions may use varying terminology to describe this unique identifier.
Meter IDs and Family Groups
Please note: Each family group within the system can only be assigned a single set of Meter IDs—one Production Meter and one Consumption Meter. This limitation applies regardless of how many devices are connected to those meters.
Multiple Meters and Properties
If you have more than one meter at your property or own multiple properties, each with their own meters, you must create a separate family group for each distinct set of meters. This is because a family group can only be linked to one set of meters at a time.
