Parallel Mode lets up to three supported Emaldo® devices in your home work together as one system. The devices share information and are managed together in the Emaldo® app.
When Parallel Mode is on, your devices:
- avoid working against each other
- make better use of your solar energy
- reduce the risk of exceeding the limit of your home's main fuse
Important: Emaldo recommends that a professional installer checks your home and sets up Parallel Mode on site.
How does Parallel Mode work?
- Parallel Mode off: each device works on its own.
- Parallel Mode on: your supported devices work as a group. One device is the main device (called Master in the app). It is the device that is physically connected to your home's smart meter (energy meter) with a cable, and it controls the other devices (called Slaves).
Which devices can use Parallel Mode?
| Device | Works in Parallel Mode? |
|---|---|
| Power Core 2.0 | Yes |
| Power Store | Yes |
| Power Core 1.0 | No, it keeps working on its own with its own settings |
| Power Pulse | No, it keeps working on its own with its own settings |
If none of your devices support Parallel Mode, the app tells you that Parallel Mode cannot be enabled.
A device may leave the group for a while. A Power Core 2.0 or Power Store can temporarily work on its own if it is offline, switched off or taking part in grid balancing. During this time, you may not be able to control it from the app. It rejoins the group automatically when it is back to normal.
What does my home need?
Your installer checks that your home meets all of these requirements:
- One smart meter: only one smart meter is connected, and the main device is connected directly to it. If you have both a Power Core 2.0 and a Power Store, we recommend that the Power Core 2.0 is the main device connected to the smart meter.
- Fuse limit: the combined inverter capacity of your devices does not exceed the size of your home's main fuse.
- Correct wiring: every device is connected to the same electrical phases in the same order (L1 to L1, L2 to L2, L3 to L3). If not, the readings can be wrong and the devices may behave inconsistently.
- Solar panels: solar panels must be connected through a third-party inverter, not directly to your Emaldo® devices. If a third-party solar system is connected in your home, the Third-Party PV setting must be turned on in Parallel Mode.
- A maximum of three devices in one parallel system.
- Same family in the app: all devices are registered in the same family in the Emaldo® app and installed at the same address. If a device is registered in a different family, it must be factory reset and commissioned again in the correct family. You can do this yourself. Please note that moving a device to a different family deletes its historical data and its Grid Rewards registration, because the Grid Rewards registration is linked to the family, not to the device. Your 4G subscription is not affected. To factory reset a device, press and hold its IoT button (the small grey button marked IoT, under the cover on the right side of the unit, next to the big red power button) for about 10 seconds, until you hear three beeps. The device restarts automatically and is ready when you hear two more beeps (this can take up to 3 minutes). Then commission it as described in Commission and Configure Emaldo Unit to same Family.
- Same network: all devices are connected to the same router. A network cable (Ethernet) is strongly recommended. Avoid Wi-Fi or 4G whenever possible. If you use more than one router, the devices may be wrongly detected as being on the same network.
What should I know before Parallel Mode is turned on?
- Your energy history is deleted. Past energy statistics for all devices are cleared in the app when Parallel Mode is turned on, and again if it is turned off. They cannot be recovered.
- All devices use the same settings. Battery strategy, family total load (main fuse size), peak shaving and energy settings are shared by all devices.
- Setup takes time. The devices usually need up to 30 minutes to connect to each other. Until then, each device keeps working on its own.
How is Parallel Mode turned on?
Your installer normally does this for you. The steps below show what happens in the Emaldo® app.
Step 1: Open Parallel Mode
Open the Emaldo® app. On the HOME screen, tap the settings icon in the top-right corner to open Family Settings. Then tap Parallel Mode.
The first time, the app shows a short introduction. After that, tap the Parallel Mode switch.
Step 2: Go through the checks
The app asks you to confirm three things:
- Meter Wiring: your installer has confirmed that the energy meter is wired correctly. Tap Check Completed.
- Network: all devices use a network cable and are connected to the same router. Tap Network Verified.
- Device Count: Parallel Mode supports a maximum of three devices. Tap I Understand, Continue.
The app shows a warning if it finds a problem, for example if a device is not using a network cable or if more than three devices are found.
Step 3: Confirm that your energy history will be deleted
Type your family name exactly as shown on the screen. You can tap the copy icon next to the name. Tap Confirm.
Step 4: Choose the shared settings
Tap Go Settings and choose the settings all devices will use:
- Battery Strategies: choose Emaldo AI Mode (automatically tracks prices and uses solar and battery conditions to find the most profitable charging and discharging strategy) or Scheduled Mode (charges and discharges according to a preset schedule). Tap Next.
- Family Total Load: choose the rating of your home's main fuse or circuit breaker (see the table below). If your rating is not listed, choose the highest value that is lower than your actual rating. Tap Next.
- Peak Shaving: turn it on or off. Peak shaving limits charging, or lets the battery discharge, when your home uses a lot of power, to help you avoid fees from your electricity distributor. To copy the settings from one of your devices, tap Select Device to Import. You can also finish this later in the settings. Tap Next. Peak shaving is currently intended for Swedish system owners only.
- Energy Settings: turn Sell Back to Grid (earn money by selling extra electricity to the grid) on or off. Turn on Third-Party PV if a third-party solar system is connected in your home; this is required in Parallel Mode. Tap Submit.
The Family Total Load screen shows these options:
| Main fuse rating | Family total load |
|---|---|
| 16 A | 11 kW |
| 20 A | 13 kW |
| 25 A | 17 kW |
| 32 A | 22 kW |
| 40 A | 27 kW |
| 50 A | 34 kW |
| 63 A | 43 kW |
Step 5: Turn on Parallel Mode
Check your settings and tap Enable. Then tap Get Started.
What happens after Parallel Mode is turned on?
- The devices connect to each other. This usually takes up to 30 minutes. It can take longer if a device is updating, offline or has network problems; setup then continues automatically.
- All devices restart to connect to the main device. If a device does not restart, the app tells you (see Troubleshooting).
- Your energy history is cleared in the app.
What you can do: keep all devices switched on and connected to the network while they connect. Do not restart them yourself. If Parallel Mode is still not active after 24 hours, contact Emaldo Support.
What you see on the device screen
Only Power Core devices have a screen. Power Store does not have a screen.
- Power Core 2.0 as the main device: the screen shows the combined data for all your devices.
- Power Core 2.0 as one of the other devices: the screen shows Parallel Connected instead of its own power.
- Power Core 1.0: it does not support Parallel Mode and works on its own, so its screen still shows its own real-time power.
Left: Master (main device). Right: Slave (other device showing Parallel Connected).
What happens when a new device is added?
Remember that one parallel system can have a maximum of three devices.
- If Parallel Mode is on: the app skips the settings that are already set for your family and applies them to the new device automatically.
- If Parallel Mode is off, or there is no main device: you choose the battery, fuse and energy settings at the end of the setup.
How is Parallel Mode turned off?
Your installer normally does this for you. When Parallel Mode is turned off, your energy history is deleted again, and each device goes back to its own settings.
- Open the Emaldo® app. On the HOME screen, tap the settings icon in the top-right corner to open Family Settings. Then tap Parallel Mode.
- Tap the Parallel Mode switch.
- Type your family name exactly as shown on the screen and tap Confirm.
- Tap Turn Off. To keep Parallel Mode on, tap Cancel.
Troubleshooting
The app says a device failed to restart
Tap Got It. Then briefly press the IoT button (for 1–2 seconds) on the device named in the message. The IoT button is the small grey button marked IoT, under the cover on the right side of the unit, next to the big red power button. Do not hold the button for more than 10 seconds, as this factory resets the device. Until the device restarts, it works on its own.
The app says "Parallel mode setup incomplete"
This means your system has no main device. This can happen if the main device has not been identified yet, or if the main device or all devices have been removed. The app sends a notification after 20 minutes, and shows the message again every 24 hours until it is fixed. Until then, each device follows its own fuse settings.
Ask your installer to check that your installation meets all the requirements.
A device has temporarily left the group
A device that is offline, switched off or taking part in grid balancing works on its own for a while. No action is needed: it rejoins automatically.
